Our History & Milestones

From a shared conviction that Indian Ocean hospitality deserved better than plastic throwaway keycards — to becoming the region's trusted eco-RFID partner.

2018 — Founded

The Plastic Problem Comes into Focus

SeychCard was founded after witnessing first-hand the sheer volume of plastic hotel keycards discarded at Seychelles resorts each season. A 200-room property losing 12,000 keycards per year — most ending up in landfill or the Indian Ocean — was simply unacceptable for a destination built on pristine ecology. Our founders set out to build an alternative supply chain.

2019 — First Supply

FSC-Certified Wood Keycards Reach Mahé

SeychCard completed its first supply of FSC-certified maple wood RFID keycards to a boutique property on Mahé island. MIFARE DESFire EV2 chips ensured full compatibility with VingCard and Dormakaba lock systems. Guest feedback was overwhelmingly positive — the warm, natural feel of wood set the tone for arrival and departure in a way no PVC card could replicate.

2021 — PPHbio Range Launch

Plant-Based Cards for High-Volume Properties

Recognising that some high-volume properties needed a thinner, lighter alternative to wood, SeychCard introduced its PPHbio plant-based hotel keycard range. Made from compressed wood pulp fibres, PPHbio delivers 85% lower Global Warming Potential than virgin PVC while maintaining full RFID functionality and REACH compliance — ideal for Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label certification.

2022 — Wristband Range

From Keycards to Wearable Access

The natural extension of eco-keycard technology: RFID wristbands for pool, beach, and spa environments. SeychCard launched its organic cotton, wood bead, and IP68-rated silicone wristband ranges — enabling cashless beach bar payments, equipment rental gating, and spa access without a card in hand. The wood bead wristband quickly became the signature product of Seychelles eco-lodge aesthetics.

2024 — Indian Ocean Expansion

Maldives, Mauritius & East Africa

SeychCard expanded supply operations to the Maldives (the world's most concentrated luxury resort market), Mauritius, Réunion, and coastal East Africa. With 200+ hotel properties now in the supply network and over 5 million sustainable keycards supplied, SeychCard has become the default sustainable RFID supplier for Indian Ocean luxury hospitality.
